Their journey began with a love of Rocks that grew into an Artisan endeavor, and then into Energy Work & Healing.

Mike & Melanie strive to create all of their jewelry in an environment that helps release the metaphysical powers that Mother Nature has given to everything that comes from the earth.

The “Spirit of the Stones,” or energetic properties, can bring Peace, Joy, Protection, Intuition, Abundance, Divine Connection and Spiritual Guidance, among many other benefits. Everything Mike & Melanie do, and everything they create, begins with the energy of the stones.

Intentional Jewelry allows you to tap into the natural energy of the stones to enhance your own inner power and manifest into your life the things you most desire.
Intentional Jewelry can connect you to ancient wisdom that will resonate with your inner soul. Some will be more sensitive and conscious of the power held within the stones, and others will think the jewelry is beautiful and wear it without being aware of the healing properties at work in their lives when they do. But the energy of the stones work whether you are conscious of this or not. Those who are consciously aware, can also “activate the stones” by holding them close for a few minutes and focusing on a specific intention, infusing that intention into the stones.

The Story of Sun Spirit Gems began long before Mike & Melanie’s paths converged, beginning with each of their individual love for Stones and Artisan work.
Mike’s Story…
Mike was raised by a single mother who delighted Mike with a surprise of some polished stones one day when he was eight years old. Mike was so excited by the gift that he begged his mother to take him to the Rock Shop where she had discovered his treasures… and Mike was instantly hooked. From that moment forward Mike’s affinity with stones began to grow and develop.
Rock Shop Paradise…
Mike spent every minute he could at the Rock Shop and grew so close to the older couple who owned the shop that he asked them if they would be his adopted grandparents. Mike grew up in the Rock Shop, learning all about each stone, and eventually how to cut and polish the stones himself. Many a day was spent going “Rock Hounding” with his adopted grandparents and when his adopted Grandfather passed on he purchased the entire inventory of rocks and some of the equipment from his Grandmother when she closed down the beloved shop.
A Specialized Lapidarist…
Since then Mike has become a Lapidarist in his own right. An Artisan who can look at the rough stone and showcase its hidden beauty by cutting, shaping and polishing each stone to perfection. Mike is the only premiere lapidarist in the Western Region of the United States who specializes in expertly cutting & polishing the rare Larimar gemstones which are only found in 4 square miles of the Dominican Republic.
Melanie’s Story…
In the meantime, Melanie was on her own journey towards the creation of Sun Spirit Gems which began with the beautiful hand-crafted jewelry she made from the various beads and charms found at the local craft store and bead sources. She had a talent for taking commonplace things and creating something extraordinarily unique and beautiful with them. But it wasn’t until she was invited to a gem show in Colorado that she truly found “home.”
Magic at the Gem Show…
As Melanie entered the huge ballroom filled with sparkling gems of every imaginable color she immediately felt centered. She was enthralled by the beauty and energy emanating from the glittering gemstones and felt drawn to them from her very core. She knew from that extraordinarily powerful moment that creating artisan jewelry from natural stones was her true calling. But it wasn’t just the beauty of each stone, it was something else that she couldn’t quite put her finger on at the time, but later made sense when she discovered that natural stones all have their own energetic properties and benefits. As she circled the room it was as if every beautiful gemstone was whispering to her and calling her home.
Reiki Master…
Learning about and tuning into energy is an ongoing process that Melanie has whole-heartedly embraced! The exploration of the energy all around us, and inside of each of us, took Melanie on a journey of further discovery that led to not only creating a new, more precious and meaningful kind of personal jewelry, but to her becoming a Reiki Master which now allows her to infuse even more beneficial positive energy into every piece of precious jewelry she and Mike create.

Mike & Melanie do an extensive amount of traveling to not only hand-pick many of the raw natural stones, but also to make the best contacts and negotiate the best prices for our clients. Our product line is consistently changing and new stones are constantly coming available. They are always on the lookout for each new discovery so they can be the first to bring it to you.
